So I was at a light and saw one of these bad boys rip around the corner and *burble burble brrrahhhhhp*
Ironically I ruled out the Fiesta ST for size. But I've ruled my decisions down to Focus ST, Veloster Turbo and now 500 Abarth. Decisions decisions.

If you don't want to buy an Abarth, whatever you do, don't hear one driven hard. Or even, at all.
It makes for so much wanting. Oh, the wanting.

98% of cars and trucks are produced to be quiet. The only ones that come stock with exhaust symphony are ones that cost more than my salary.
But then the angry abarth comes and says "hey guys look at me!" Braaaahhhhpppp

The first one I actually saw and heard was in Carmel, where Ferraris and other exotics are common. Of course I turned when I heard the sound, and seeing that goofy little upright profile, with that awesome sound, just put a smile on my face.

yes. I've made it to 27 without the "dad instinct" kicking in so I think I'm clear to father a 4 wheeled child instead

If this was a between a Fiesta ST and the Abarth, I would have thought hard and long. But against the Focus ST and Veloster Turbo.... ABARTH ALL THE WAY!

I think a lot comes down to an odd affinity for having something- different. Not like hipster "you probably haven't heard of it yet" but straying away from the mainstream. But look at it this way, I go with bulbasaur every time.

I drove one last year and it was a brilliant little machine. At 6'3" and 300 lbs I can barely fit inside with my wife but i still kind of want one.

I get it perfectly! Hipsters are an oxymoron, since there are too much of them really. I also like to stray from ordinary, but thats not why I would get the Abarth over Focus ST. For example, I dont care if a lot of people here have the Fiesta ST. I like it, and want one. I wont hate it and go all hipster on it when it is a damn good machine. I would go for the Abarth because, if not the best drive, everything that surrounds you makes you smile! The color, the noise, the speed, the comical (not driver-like, or focused) drive that makes it fun in its own way. The Abarth is as fun as the Fiesta ST or Focus ST. Albeit it for a completley different reason, and that completley different reason is exactly why I love it and would pick it over the others!

Exactly. BUT, it isnt better to drive than the ST. I haven't even sat in either vehicles, but can know that through all the reviews, oppinions, and imagination.

I got to text drive the Abarth and all i can say is it is so much more fun then the Fiesta ST. The noise is incredible, The clutch is very very light, it handles amazingly for it's price point, it also has Italian good looks, and last but not least you can imagine that really hot model from the Fiat commercials is in the car with you.

Being a hipster is defined by having many different likings that dont really go together, for instance its very hipster to be ice cream that was put in the oven at 450 for 20 minutes, or a hershey bar dipped in tabasco. But seriously, doesnt that definition describe 90% of he world? Its only recently that a word was put to the phenomenon.

Well, I havent really experienced any hipsters, so I might as well be an ignorant on the topic. I have only known their liking of "out of the ordinary" but thanks for the info. I will keep it in mind.

Being a hipster means that you think liking stupid shit makes you cool (PBR, bad music, Jesus...etc). The Abarth is not Hipster.

That is absolutely true. The FieSTa is ungodly good. Like, seriously, now that I own one, the fact that Road and Track gave it third place in the "best driver's cars of 2014" test doesn't even seem hyperbolic in the least, the FieSTa is FANTASTIC to drive. Absolutely amazing.
The Abarth makes you smile anyway. It's a turbo-charged 8-ounce can of concentrated giggle. It looks you in the eye and it says "bitch, I am so much fucking fun, I DARE you not to laugh!" and just when you think you can hold a straight face it does something so ridiculous that you just can't help it. It pops and cracks and spits fire out the tailpipe, it cocks a rear wheel in the air and makes you momentarily fear that counter-steer is your only savior, and then it makes angry-turbo noises and squealy-tire noises and stops on a dime and does forward FWD donuts around a light pole in the parking lot and you just break down in a fit absolute hilarity. It is fun incarnate, and if it were a four-door I would probably own one rather than the "obviously superior" FieSTa.
The FieSTa and the 500 Abarth are proof that both Ford and Fiat still have souls. Fiat's is a little less serious and self-deprecating, but Ford's is strong, and brazen and full of the joy of life and living... Kudos guys. These are perhaps the two best tiny cars that have ever been offered for sale in the USA.

This sounds like that argument people like to make about how anyone could have become a Nazi. No, it takes a certain individual to live the hipster lifestyle.

I guess thats true if your going by perception, but by definition, there are alot of hipsters out there. I dont consider myself a hipster, nor do I try/want to be one, but I'd be lying if I said that I have no hipster-like qualities.

The new PBR is most definitely hispter. It's cool to drink shitty beer because it's ironic. And their marketing campaign with the murals a few years ago is what told the hipsters that.

It's never been cool to like PBR, that's the point. PBR is piss in a can, and thinking it's cool to drink it makes you a stupid fucking hipster. Now, in your case, you just like it, which is ok. Just as long as don't think it's cool. Otherwise you've entered hipsterdom. Drinking PBR is about as cool as eating McDonalds.
